What do serial killings have to do with the wonderful, peaceful Canary island of La Gomera?“Nothing”, would be the obvious answer. However, in “Degollada - Zahltag auf La Gomera” by Günter Finger these two things are nevertheless coming together, with an additional flavour of Cheech & Chong and of Tatort, resulting in a mix of gruesome but at times also hilarious events!
Against the background of an island that comes close to being a paradise (and yes, bananas are still one of its main products), a mysterious serial killer is spreading horror amongst the German community in the village of Valle Gran Rey.
While reading the book you feel like being in a roller coaster: Utter suspense, funny situations, beautiful women, good and bad guys, drunks and junkies, corrupt politicians and unscrupulous business men provide continuous entertainment, one page after the other.
And… the final outcome of the story may well be different from what you would expect.
For everyone who lives on this unique island, for those who love it, for those who have visited it, for those who consider spending a future holiday there and for those who are just curious, Finger’s book is a must to read. But there is one prerequisite: You must be able to read German!
Those who know La Gomera well will certainly recognize many of the locations mentioned in the book… and possibly also a few of its characters. But this must probably be pure coincidence.
Being a resident of Valle Gran Rey since just over one month I have very much enjoyed reading this book from the first page right to the very last one.
