I got this book on my Kindle because it was free and I wanted to check out an author I had not read before. I enjoyed the characters and the story, but I was very disappointed to have the story just end, with no closure. The killer was not revealed or caught, the mystery not solved. You have to buy the next book to see how the first book ends. I usually do not download books if I know this in advance. I can't say for sure if I will buy the next book or not to read the conclusion as I have so many more books to read and do not usually spend too much money on buying Kindle books.Product details

Target A prequel story Denver FBI edition by Lisa Phillips Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I am impressed by the ingenuity of this story. The Chloroform Killer kidnaps Andrea, seconds before FBI Special Agent Liam Casey returns from the gym. He and his partner have been after this killer. Liam knows the victim, but has passed up several attempts to meet her. In all the mayhem which follows, Andrea shows up and the question now is, "Who did the Chrloroform Killer abduct?
When all other avenues fail to get any tangible results, Caisey Lyons, volunteers to pretend to be Andrea. What follows would be a solid spoiler. You will not be sorry you read this.
I have already started reading the follow up "Bait."
The main plot line to this story was good, and I liked the characters. I did have some problems with the story in that it seemed to progress a bit too much quickly and it seemed like there wasn't enough seriousness placed on the situation with the Chloroform killer. Putting myself in the story, I would think that there would be more terror and fear on the part of the characters; some of the lighthearted talk just wasn't in keeping with the somberness of a killer being on the loose. With that being said, however, the ending definitely has me on the edge of my seat, and I am eager to start Bait, the next book in the series.
Thank you to Lisa Phillips for allowing me to review this book--the opinions which I wrote are my own.
Special Agent (FBI) Liam Connors, Denver, Colorado, is coming out of the gym in his apartment block at 2am one morning when he sees a 'van man' carrying a bag over his shoulder. It suddenly dawns on Liam that it is the body of his neighbor, Andrea James who he has seen but never spoken to. The Chloroform Killer has struck again! The Chloroform Killer's pattern usually leaves no traces, just a dead body in 10 days!
Who is Andrea James? She is the daughter of wealthy parents. Her mother is a drunk and her father appears to be more interested in his IPad than the fact that Andrea has been abducted. Andrea works as a CPA.
Liam is a graduate of Harvard, always dressed immaculately in expensive suits but harboring a deep sadness and guilt since he found his sister dead in the bath several years ago. His FBI partner is Caisey Lyons, a young woman who always speaks her mind.
What a surprise is in store when the two FBI officers find Andrea James waiting for them at the security checkpoint! She is not too happy with the mess in her apartment. Liam, who has had a secret crush on her for a long time, gives her a big hug.
SO who is the 6th victim that Liam saw the 'van man' taking away? What about the next victim? You're going to have to read the book to find out!
I LOVED this book! It was gripping from the beginning. It is, as described, a prequel so a short and easy read. I love the bantering between Liam and Caisey. They know each other extremely well but there are no romantic notions or desires between them. They are just good working partners that deeply care for each other. BUT and this is a big but, do NOT read this book if you have no intention of reading the next one in the series titled Bait. This book (Target) is a teaser and does not have an ending. I had planned on reading Bait right after this one so I was not disappointing and as another reviewer has said, this book really does set the scene for the next book.
Highly recommended! I'm off to review Bait now. See you over there!
Interesting story and characters until the book ended without an ending. I understand having a series, but this book is not done. Sad...
This was a great book. It was exciting to read, with a lot of action. The part I liked the best was, several of the FBI agents were Christians. They knew who held their life in the palm of his hand. I liked meeting the characters and even though they were agents, they took their jobs very seriously. Seeing death so often can make you a soft or hard hearted person. Everyone needs God whether you believe it or not. This story proves it. Next best thing was no bad language in this book. Harrah!!!!
The story ended without closure. Goes right into next . It feels like a novella which you expect to be short. Don't get me wrong I like series but they have to transition from one to the next.I l like the fact that the characters were Christians.l
There is a serial killer on the loose and FBI agents are trying to capture him. FBI agent Liam sees his "neighbor" being kidnapped by the serial killer. Then something miraculous happens, he sees his neighbor and it turns out that it was her sister who was kidnapped. Oh, I forgot to say that Liam likes/loves his neighbor. I found that the FBI personnel, especially Liam's, was not realistic enough for me. I expected the FBI to be more professional. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it because it doesn't seem professional to me. My take on the book was that the main characters acted a lot like teenagers. If you choose to download this book, be prepared for the cliffhanger ending.
I got this book on my because it was free and I wanted to check out an author I had not read before. I enjoyed the characters and the story, but I was very disappointed to have the story just end, with no closure. The killer was not revealed or caught, the mystery not solved.
